Gladys Elizabeth Andrus

Andrus, Gladys Elizabeth In her 98th year, passed away on July 2, 2021 in Cobourg. Gladys born September 10, 1923. Gladys spent many of her working years as a switchboard operator with Bell Canada and later at Cobourg Hospital. She retired after many years as the Secretary at George Hamilton Public School in Welcome. She was actively involved in many community and youth organizations and was on numerous boards and committees over the years including being the first woman elected to the South Hope School Board. Gladys was the recipient of many awards over the years including Volunteer of the year from the Port Hope Community Care. Gladys is survived by her children Phyllis Fenton (Ken), Barbara Peters (Daryl Parfitt), Bill Andrus (Marg), Paul Andrus (Lori), Janet Dickinson (Bill) and John Andrus (Rose). She will be dearly missed by all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law Yvonne Hoy and Aleda Andrus, her dear friend Dianne and her many friends and neighbours. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas, brother Charles (Gomme), sisters Lillian (Gomme) and Shirley Martin. Friends will be received at the Allison Funeral Home, 103 Mill Street North, Port Hope, Tuesday July 6, 2021 from 2-4 pm. Due to Covid restrictions the service will be limited to family only. Interment, Welcome Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Community Care Port Hope, or Community Care Northumberland (Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre). www.allisonfuneralhome.com
