Phyllis Ann Broughton

Phyllis Ann Broughton, 92, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mrs. Broughton was born March 11, 1929 in Westwood, a daughter of the late Roy Taylor and Lenora Ellington Cook. Her mother passed away at a young age and her mother’s sister Lucy Cook took the role as mother to Phyllis.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was also preceded by her husband Cecil Broughton and a granddaughter Jessica Lea Broughton Justice.
Phyllis was raised in the Pollard area of Ashland and was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. As a young woman, she played a vital role in raising money to build a church parsonage and to welcome people to attend church.
She worked at the Putnam Agency in Ashland for many years as a secretary and for the former National Mines.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Michael Leslie Broughton and wife Pamela of Ashland, Joe Broughton and wife Teresa of Ashland, daughters Libby Vallance and husband Dale of Flatwoods, Teresa Broughton of Ashland, Linda Click of Ashland, brothers Roger (Ruth) Cook of Boyd County, Richard Cook of Ashland, sisters Bonnie Leist of Florida, Nancy (Robert) Farley of Frankfort, KY, grandchildren Stephen (Noelle) Vallance, Christie (Rodger) Raybourn, Scott Broughton, Susan (Michael) Pierce, Julie (Charles) Hobbs, Erica Broughton, Taylor Broughton, many great and great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Steen Funeral Home 13th St. Chapel by Chaplain Jimm Smedley. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery in Westwood.
Visitation will be prior to services Friday at the funeral home from 12:00noon till service time at 2:00.
