<p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">Henry Winter &quot;Butch&quot; Brooks Jr., age 78, passed away at his home from leukemia on June 24, 2021 while surrounded&nbsp;by his loving family.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">He was born in 1942 to Henry W. Brooks, Sr. and Jeannette Laws Brooks.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of the Bear/Glasgow area. Butch started his life on his grandfather&#39;s (Delaware E. Laws) farm and continued to love farming on his son&#39;s farm until the end of his life.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">He attended Newark High school. A natural athlete, Butch excelled in baseball at a young age, breaking and setting records for the Newark VFW Phillies Little League Team. He also was the United States&nbsp;Champion in speed skating holding the fastest time for almost 15 years.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">His last employment was with Hillside Oil for 28 years. Prior to that he worked at Avon Products and also drove for Harvey and Knotts.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">He was a member of the Glasgow Methodist Church, Pencader Grange, Delaware Mobile Surf fisherman and the Wilmington Trapshooting Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to grandchildren&#39;s sporting events and most of all spending time with his family and friends.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">He is survived by his daughter Dee Hamrick (Greg) of Bear, son Henry W. &ldquo;Butch&rdquo; Brooks, III (Jen) of Newark, two sisters Jeanne Brooks-DiClemente (Raymond) of Glasgow and Melissa Brooks of Perry, Florida.&nbsp;He is also survived by nine grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, Cory, Cody, Paige, Holly, Gregory, Brandon and Quinn, one great grandson Ian and one nephew, Jeremy of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Thursday July&nbsp;8, 2021 at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, Delaware. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;"><span style="font-size: 18px;"><span style="font-family: georgia,serif;">The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Lankiewicz and the amazing staff of the Helen Graham Cancer Center for their loving care and compassion.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia &amp; Lymphoma Society (givenow.lls.org).</span></span></span></span></p>

Henry Winter "Butch" Brooks Jr., age 78, passed away at his home from leukemia on June 24, 2021 while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in 1942 to Henry W. Brooks, Sr. and Jeannette Laws Brooks.  He was a lifelong resident of the Bear/Glasgow area. Butch started his life on his grandfather's (Delaware E. Laws) farm and continued to love farming on his son's farm until the end of his life.

He attended Newark High school. A natural athlete, Butch excelled in baseball at a young age, breaking and setting records for the Newark VFW Phillies Little League Team. He also was the United States Champion in speed skating holding the fastest time for almost 15 years.

His last employment was with Hillside Oil for 28 years. Prior to that he worked at Avon Products and also drove for Harvey and Knotts.

He was a member of the Glasgow Methodist Church, Pencader Grange, Delaware Mobile Surf fisherman and the Wilmington Trapshooting Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to grandchildren's sporting events and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
