Daryl Gakin, 34, of Redfield, SD, died in a tragic traffic accident on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in Marion Township in Centre County, PA.   Following his wishes, Daryl will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Hyke Funeral Home. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Daryl was born in Aberdeen, SD to the late David Heidenson and Gloria Gakin on June 1, 1987.  He attended and graduated from Redfield High School in 2006.  After high school, he attended Black Hill State College in Spearfish, SD.

After college, Daryl worked as a bartender in Deadwood, SD and later became employed by Knecht in Spearfish.  In January 2010, he became a proud father to his son, Bryer.

Daryl was very active in the outdoors and loved to spend time hiking and playing softball. He will be remembered for his big smile and being a friend to so many.  He was known as “Double Barrel Daryl” due to his bigger than life personality.

Daryl will be missed by his son Bryer of Black Hills, SD; mother Gloria Gakin and her friend Keith Farmen of Redfield; brother Tate (Victoria) Stroup of Camp Pendleton, CA; sister Sophia Allen and her friend Jake Hardie of Brookings, SD; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
