Lewis W. Wanger, 91 year old Fort Supply resident, died Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Mooreland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Woodward. Private family burial will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery, prior to the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.<br /><br />Lewis Wayne Wanger was born on December 18, 1929 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Benjamin Elvin and Mary Edna (Devous) Wanger. Lewis grew up north of Freedom, Buffalo, Gage, and then Fort Supply. He began school at Unity and graduated from Fort Supply High School. He was united in marriage to Ruth Virginia Handley on November 4, 1950 at the home of Lewis's parents outside of Fort Supply, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Fort Supply and they then moved to a farm southwest of Fort Supply and then back to Fort Supply for a brief period. They moved to the "VanDorn Place" southwest of Fort Supply in 1956 and in 1968 they bought the Flaherty Farm and in 1969 moved the whole distance of 1 ½ miles to that home. They called it home for 48 years. <br /><br />In his early years Lewis worked at Western State Hospital and Wanger and Drake. In 1967, Lewis had a special opportunity to help build the highline from Clearlake to Fort Supply working for Ruth's Uncle Bill Musselman. In the 1970's and 1980's you could find him working at the Woodward Livestock Auction on Fridays. But through all these jobs he continued to farm and ranch. Farming was his life. He loved a crisp, clear, still morning and was known to belt out "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" as he went to feed and milk the cows.<br /><br />Lewis was a long time member of the Fort Supply Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. He enjoyed driving the tractor, feeding the cattle, the squirrels, helping his neighbors, and he loved spending time with his family.<br /><br />He is survived by one daughter, Melinda Oblander and husband Steve of Woodward; three sons: Kenneth Wanger and wife Brenda of Woodward, Danny Wanger and wife Lucinda of Gore, Donald Wanger and wife Katy of Fort Supply; one brother, Harold Wanger; three sisters: Dorothy Long Ishmael, Lily Deweese Neill and husband Don, Alice Jones; grandchildren: Mark Oblander, Kent Wanger, Tim Oblander, Kylie Wanger, Elizabeth (Wanger) Todd, Kaden Wanger, Ashley Bagwell, Jeromy Webb, Jared Kornele, and Breanne Vang; great-grandchildren: Makaila, Chloe, Trent, Brodie, Jadelyn, Tyler, Brady, Jordan, Hannah, Hope, Grace, Brexton, Itialy, Kyler, and Aiverleigh; great-great-grandchildren: Arabella, Jason, Cooper; other relatives and many friends.<br /><br />He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Ruth Wanger in 2017, infant son, Terry Wayne Wanger, brother Loyd Wanger and wife Jackie, brothers-in-law, Clifton Long, Golden Ishmael, D.L. Deweese, Lennes Jones, sister-in-law, Bonnie Wanger, and great-granddaughter, Finley Elizabeth Oblander.<br /><br />Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Supply Baptist Church or the Fort Supply Fire Department with the funeral home accepting the contributions.<br />
