William John Schroeder

William John Schroeder, 78, of Plankinton, SD passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021 at his home. Funeral Mass is 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 24, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Stickney, SD. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2021 with a 7:00 P.M. Wake Service and Rosary. William John Schroeder was born on July 9, 1942 to John C. and Dorothy (Kaus) Schroeder in Stickney, SD. He attended Pleasant Lake Elementary School and graduated in 1960 from Stickney High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from June 1960 to July 1963. Bill was united in marriage to Maxine Koch on October 10, 1966 at St. Willibrord Catholic Church in Robey, SD. Bill was a lifelong farmer and also served as a Youth Counselor at the State Training School in Plankinton, SD. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton and enjoyed raising horses, fishing and working with leather and wood. Bill especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Grateful for having shared in Bill’s life: his wife over 54 years, Maxine Schroeder of Plankinton, SD; seven children: Patricia (Marcelo) Silveira of Overland Park, KS, Kristi Schroeder of Plankinton, SD, Constance Schroeder of Mitchell, SD, Michael (Mercia) Schroeder of Plankinton, SD, Matthew Schroeder of Plankinton, SD, Renee (Gary) Trisco of Plankinton, SD and Kerri (Roger) Konechne of Plankinton, SD; 15 grandchildren: Mikaela (Hayden Haak) Cassidy, Kellen Cassidy, Lilith Forsting, Lyndsie Stearns, Thomas Pietrzak-Schroeder, Teresa Schroeder, Clara Schroeder, Brady Brink, Alanna Schroeder, Oakley Swanson, Taylen Trisco, Celina Trisco, Kody Konechne, Meredith Konechne and Olivia Konechne; two great-grandchildren: Willow Pretre and Aaleyah Haak; three brothers: Charles (Diana) Schroeder of Rochester, MN, Robert (Kathy) Schroeder of Alexandria, SD and Leonard (Norma Struemph) Schroeder of Sioux Falls, SD; four sisters: Carol Schabot of Yankton, SD, Jean (Barry) Moller of Stickney, SD, Mary Buhl of Rochester, MN and Joyce (Gerald) Tilberg of Mitchell, SD; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ronald (Aletha) Koch, Joan Markley, Mary Koch, Shirley (Dave) Flick and Janet (Denny) Everson; along with numerous nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Dorothy Schroeder; father and mother-in-law, Matt & Stella Koch; five brothers-in-law: Donald Schabot, Donald Markley, William Wolf, Dale Koch and Bernie Koch; two nieces; and two nephews.
