Kalona- Charles E. Swantz was born October 23, 1935 in rural Kalona, Iowa. The son of Emmet and Anna (Helmuth) Swantz. He worked for P&G and also worked for Yoder Brothers, Lyle Yoder and was a milk truck driver. On October 23, 1956 Charles was united in marriage to Lorena Brenneman at the Fairview Mennonite Church near Kalona. They moved to Colorado Springs for two years, until returning to the Kalona area. Charles was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Lions Club and Optimist Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, cutting wood, and camping. He was an avid train collector and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Charles passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Pleasantview Home at the age of 85 years. Charles is survived by his wife Lorena of Kalona, 4 children: Donna (Nelson) Miller, Rodney (Beth) Swantz, Karla (Al) Coblentz all of Kalona and Nita (Steve) Minino of Omaha; 6 grandchildren: Tyler (Rosanna) Coblentz, Travis (Rachel) Coblentz, Camden and Jackson Miller, Taylor Swantz and Lauren (Lee) Ropp; 7 great grandchildren: Noah, Levi, Carson and Thea Coblentz, Easton and Nora Ropp and Elliott Coblentz; brother-in-law; Daniel Yoder and sister-in-law; Gretchen Swantz. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings: Fannie (Lewis) Yoder, Wilson (Mattie) Swantz, Lewis (Mary) Swantz, Amelia Yoder, Barbara (Henry) Miller and Jonas Swantz. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church rural Kalona. The Service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/nsFWWiD8N6A Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday where the family will greet friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
