William Gunderman

Bill Gunderman, age 61 passed away on October 18th, 2017 at Wesley Glen Health Center 14 years and 3 months after his diagnosed inoperable brain tumor. Bill’s main passion was competing in triathlons and duathlons. He ran the Columbus Marathon in 1999 with a time of 3 hours and 13 minutes qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Bill enjoyed working out at Premier Athletic Club, training with his good friend, Adolfo. He also spent time with his friends from the brain tumor support group and his “gym buddies”. Bill’s previous passions include playing his piano since childhood and participating in several hockey teams while living in Orchard Lake, Michigan and in Columbus, Ohio. Previously, Bill was an aerobics instructor in his mid 20’s at Vic Tanny’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Bill enjoyed reading a variety of topics and was a frequent visitor to the Upper Arlington Libraries. Bill graduated from West Bloomfield High School in West Bloomfield, Michigan in 1973. He served in the US Navy in 1975-1976. Bill graduated from New Mexico State University with a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering in 1990 and a master of science in Electrical Engineering in 1992. Bill moved back to Columbus, Ohio where he was a principal software engineer for CompuServe (AOL) from 1993 to 2007. Bill was an avid University of Michigan fan. Go Blue! Wolverines! Bill was a dedicated Big Brother to his little brother, Aric from June, 1998 to 2004. Bill is survived by his parents, Mary and Bob Gunderman of Columbus, Ohio, his older brother, Bob (Suzanne) of Eugene, Oregon, his sister, Kathy Gunderman of Dublin, Ohio, his younger brothers: Jim Gunderman (Anne Marie) of El Segundo, California and Dave Gunderman (Lori) of Hillsboro, Ohio. He leaves behind his nine nieces and nephews: Sarah (Andy) Post, Amy (Aaron) Parker, Lauren Gunderman, Christian Gunderman, Michael Gunderman, Andrew Gunderman, John Gunderman, Grace (Christian) Mans and Claire Gunderman. Bill also leaves behind his great nephew, Hunter Post and a great niece, Remi Post. A funeral mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church will also be held on November 8th at 11 am, followed by private celebration dinner of Bill’s life for family and friends on November 8th at 5 pm.
