Charles F. Abbate

Charles F. Abbate, age 76, of Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Kent Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Gorman) Abbate. They were married for 53 years. Born in Buffalo, New York, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Biondolillo) Abbate, he resided in Warwick for the last 44 years. He attended Canisius High School and the University of Buffalo. Mr. Abbate was employed as a mortgage originator before retiring 10 years ago. He was earlier employed in food service management and purchasing at the University of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales University, and Bryant University. He was a member of the Tri-City Lodge of Elks in Warwick, and was a supporter of the Groden Center in Providence. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles F. Abbate, D.V.M. and his wife Ann Gillis, of New Brunswick, Canada, and Frank P. Abbate of Warwick; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Gregory, and Shawn Abbate. He was the brother of the late Salvatore Abbate. His funeral will be held on Monday, June 14, at 11 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. (The mass will be live-streamed on the church website at: www.stkevin-stbenedict.org) Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, June 13, from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Frank P.
