Obituary
Pearlie Mae Bassett passed away at the age of 83 on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at her residence. Her passing followed a short illness.
She was a graduate of Austin High School. Prior to retirement, she owned and operated Bassett Boarding Home for mentally challenged adults for 40 years.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church.
Preceded in death by husband of 58 years, Elbert Bassett, Sr; daughter, Vanessa Truitt; son-in-law, Nelson Truitt; granddaughter, Sevoka Bell; great grandson, Jonah Colbert; mother, Sallie Mae Tate; grandparents, Thomas and Cliffie Tate; sister, Nancy Tate; best friend, Bernice “Tot” manning and several in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are son, Elbert Bassett, Jr.; daughter, Artheria “Nenna” Bassett; grandchildren, Kipling Colbert, Sr., Michael (Tiehish) Colbert, Jessica Bassett, Courtney Bassett, Michael Starnes, Jade Bassett, Branden Bassett, Elbert “Tre” Bassett III; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Melvin Tate, Jewell Whitson, and Christine Tate; brother-in-law, Harold Bassett; sisters-in-law, Gloria Bassett and Jossilean Bassett; also, a host of other family and friends too numerous to name.
Friday, June 18, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church, 3023 Selma Avenue, Knoxville TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. A graveside service will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, 2400 Berry Road, where a white dove release will conclude the service.
