Mary Ann Byrne Hurley Obituary

Mary Ann passed away suddenly on June 7, 2021. Mary Ann was born and raised in Dorchester, and was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Byrne. Loving mother of Erin and Patrick Hurley. Dear sister of Patricia Byrne of Harwich, James Byrne and his wife Jacqueline (Ginger) of Dorchester, Charles Byrne Jr., and his wife Jane of Weymouth, Kathleen Byrne of Squantum, Teresa Sullivan and her husband John of Braintree. Cherished aunt of Brendan, Deirdre, Maggie (Tobin) Byrne, Bernadette (Labbe), Brian and Delia Byrne, Elizabeth and Jay Gribaudo, Sean and Colleen Sullivan. Former wife of Paul Hurley of Norwell.

Mary Ann graduated from Boston College, and earned her law degree at Suffolk University. She practiced law for many years, and then went on to be an Assistant Clerk Magistrate. Mary Ann was fluent in Spanish, which often helped during her careers.

Mary Ann enjoyed exercising and completed several Boston Marathons (with impressive times). Mary Ann loved all animals, especially dogs. Mary Ann was an avid gardener and always had fresh cut flowers on the table. She also enjoyed cooking, and especially making Erin and Pat’s favorite recipes. Mary Ann had a heart bigger than the universe, and always went the extra mile to help others out. She was very quick-witted and had a great sense of humor. Her contagious laugh will never be forgotten!

Erin and Patrick were everything to Mary Ann, and she was so proud of their many accomplishments.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mary Ann’s life will be held on June 10th at 11 o’clock in Saint Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to The Animal Rescue League of Boston 10 Chandler Street Boston, Ma., or the Alzheimer’s Association. At Mary Ann’s request there will no visiting hours and the interment will remain private. Mary Ann’s wish had always been for anyone attending her funeral to wear a joyful color.
