Jacquelynn Ann Kirby Silver Spring, Maryland Obituary

Jacquelynn Ann Kirby

Always her own person, Jaan made her choices carefully and decisively. She was a diverse woman as shown in her life’s interests. After college, she became a social studies teacher, pursuing secondary school teaching for several years. She and friend Mary Stephens then began the very successful and still-existing Pet Nanny of Lanham, which brought her great fulfillment. Wanting to return to the classroom, she then studied at Georgetown University later receiving her Master’s degree in History. From cherishing baseball cards as a child to teaching herself to play guitar as an adult, (she played beautifully), she also had a love of music, history, and politics. Later in life, she enjoyed her leadership in the CPAAA, which is the Prince George’s Citizen Volunteer Police Committee. To students or a community in need, Jaan was a champion. Her sense of righteousness and commitment will be very much missed. The family thanks all those who did so much for Jaan these last few months and the many kindnesses during her lifetime. She leaves a critical void in the Kirby family dynamic. There was only ONE Jaan and we all learned from her. She is survived by her sisters, Thrynn and Helene Kirby of Delaware, her brother, Toby Kirby of Arkansas, and nieces and nephews Dan, Kevin, Sharon, Jimmy, and Kathryn Kirby of Indiana. She is also survived by many great- nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 12010 Woodmore Road, Mitchellville, MD 20721, on Monday, June 7, from 10-11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Saint Joseph’s Indian School, 1301 North Main Street Chamberlain, SD 57325, 1-800-341-2235, saintjosephs@stjo.org <iframe class="ts_player" allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" frameborder="0" height="330" scrolling="no" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/RCKQBW32DBWDBNGS" width="512"></iframe>
