Leonard Jerome Walker Obituary

Leonard J. Walker, 89, of Clifton, passed away December 11, 2015 in Wayne N.J. Leonard was born to Jerome and Mary Walker on February 23, 1926. He spent most of his early years in Lyndhurst, NJ and graduated from Lyndhurst High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Signalman Second Class until his honorable discharge in 1946. Leonard was extremely proud of his military service and loved to share those stories with family and friends. Leonard began working for Merrick Scale Corporation in 1947. His first position was a draftsman. He continued working for Merrick over the next 39 years. His job took him around the world and he amassed many frequent flyer miles. Many of these he shared with his family. Leonard retired in 1986. His final position was as an Assistant Vice President of the company. After his retirement Leonard played a lot of golf. His love of the sport eventually led him to work part time at the Passaic County Golf Course. He held that job until he was 88 years old. If you ever waited on line at the tee you probably met him. Leonard married his loving wife, Nadia Barna, of Clifton in 1947. They were married for 62 years until her death in 2009. Leonard is preceded by his parents, Mary and Jerome, his wife Nadia, and 2 sons Dwight (2014) and Jeffrey (2000). Leonard is survived by his sister Lorraine of Hopatcong; his children Doug (Cathy) of Hamburg; James of Clifton, Nadia Brunetto (Joseph) of Fanwood; and daughter in law Lynne of Wayne. Leonard is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Douglas Walker, Kimberly Moeller and Alexis Brunetto, as well as 5 great grandchildren; Jack, Ryan, Drew, Kiersten and Brad. Please gather at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton on Thursday at 10:30 am to proceed to Cedar Lawn Cemetery, cor. Crooks and Lakeview Avenues for a graveside service and interment of ashes at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the veteran's organization of your choice.
