Bobbie Lee Mitchell Setzer

Bobbie Lee Mitchell Setzer, 86, died peacefully Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Springs of Catawba in Hickory, NC after a period of declining health. Bobbie was ready to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. "Jesus turned and saw her, take heart, daughter, he said, your faith has healed you. And the woman was healed from that moment." Matthew 9:22 Born February 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Neal McKinley Mitchell and Margaret Inez Little Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Reese Setzer, and brother, Charles Mitchell. Bobbie is survived by her son, Mitchell Reese Setzer and wife, Nancy; daughters, Candice Lea Simmons and Margaret Jayne Smart of Hickory; brother, Jim Mitchell of Hickory; six grandchildren Kris Setzer-Poole and husband, Bryan of Atlanta; Cami Preti and husband, Chris of Cary, Lesley Otten and husband, Chris of Charlotte, Matthew Simmons of Hickory, Brandon Wilson and husband, Rodney of Hickory; Neil Miliam of Hickory; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; special friend and companion, John Canipe, of Chicago; and beloved poodle, Sparky. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A lifelong Hickory, NC resident, Bobbie was a graduate of the Hickory High School Class of 1948. She enjoyed painting, dancing and spending time in the summer in Blowing Rock. She attended Viewmont Baptist Church. She worked as an accounting clerk for Deloitte, Haskin & Sells and was employed by the Hickory City School System for a number of years. The family gives thanks to the caregivers at Springs of Catawba for their kind and loving care of Bobbie while a resident. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery gravesite at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2016 with Rev. Wil Posey of First United Methodist church officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, P.O. Box 63 Hickory, North Carolina 28603.
