Bonnie Lee Carpenter

On Sunday May 9, 2021, Bonnie Carpenter passed at the age of 65 due to a battle with cancer. Bonnie was born February 8, 1956 in Bennington, VT to Hudson and Esther Carpenter. She attended Dorset Elementary and Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, VT. She graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering, Cum Laude from the University of Vermont in 1979. On November 21,1979 she married Christopher Conover on their land where they designed and built their dwelling with their own hands. They were blessed by two amazing children, Caitlin who lives in Salida, CO and Schuyler who lives in Essex, VT. She is survived by her husband Christopher Conover, her sisters Virginia Labbe, Nancy Burditt, Joan Brooks, Judy Carpenter and her brother Judson Carpenter, and her dog Allie and her three cats, Luna, Willow, and Leelu. Bonnie worked during school part time doing land surveying. After college she worked for Knight Consulting Engineers until she decided to become a full-time mother to spend more time with her children. During this time, she was a Girl Scout leader for several years. Later she went back to work at Smugglers Notch Resort and at the University of Vermont in the purchasing department. After caring for her mother jointly with siblings, she retired in 2017. She was kind-hearted and would go out of her way to help any person (or animal) in the most selfless way possible. Bonnie loved the outdoors and enjoyed many outdoors activities, particularly skiing, hiking, and camping. She enjoyed watching the changing of the seasons, from the first blossom of flowers, to the changing of the leaves, to the soft coat of snow covering the land. She spent summer vacations with family at Chateaugay Lake in NY along with other traveling adventures around the country and abroad. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Bonnie’s name to the Leiomyosarcoma Support & Direct Research Foundation (LMSDR.ORG).
