Freida Brown Obituary

Freida Brown, 78 of Seymour, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021 in Seymour.

Services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Warren and Rev. Tommy Culwell officiating.  Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Freida was born January 10, 1943 in Knox City to Fred and Geraldine Gipson Wiles.  She attended Vera Schools until it closed, transferring to Benjamin High School where she graduated as the salutatorian of her class.  She married Floyd Brown on June 20, 1961 at the Vera Baptist Church.  She began working at Garlington Electric after her children started school.  It became Garlington-Brown in the mid 1970s and she worked there until the day she died, doing her best to crack the whip on the boys.  Freida was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, the Vera Cemetery Association, kept books for the Vera Community Center and was on the homecoming Committee.  She was also THE planner for family reunions.  Family was the most important thing to Freida.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Lady’s Sunday School Class.  Freida was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Geraldine Wiles and her beloved brother, Gerald Wiles.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Mack Brown of Dallas and Bill and Charlotte Brown of Seymour; her brother, Rick and Sheryl Wiles; sister-in-law and friend, Debbie Wiles of Memphis; 3 grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Erin Brown, Bethany and Zach Burgess and Andrew and Marley Brown; most importantly her 5 great grandchildren, Gage, Weston, Ella, Arch and Brooks as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she loved like her own.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the Vera Cemetery Association, the Vera Community Center or the First Baptist Church of Seymour.
