Dorine Agnes Thompson was born on July 5, 1951 in Pine River, MB; the eldest of the fourteen children of James & Clemence (nee Moreau) Thompson. She grew up in Camperville, MB and attended school to grade six then stayed home to help her parents with the family. They lived off the land and would camp in the summers. They trapped, hunted, logged and picked berries and roots. She enjoyed singing, dancing, drawing and listening to Elvis and The Beatles. She spent many hours with her Koko and Aunt Stella. She met Lloyd Menard and married in September, 1972.  Together, they had five children- Sheila, Jerry, Billy, Jeffery and Franklin. They moved to Winnipeg where she taught herself many crafts including knitting, crocheting, sewing and upholstering furniture while raising her children.  She sewed her children clothing and knitted winter wear every year. She loved to garden. She was an excellent baker and prided herself on her homemade bread. She loved her siblings and helped with babysitting or opening her home to them when needed. She loved to tease and was very straight forward with her opinions. Doreen & Lloyd  moved their family back to Duck River, MB to a farm when her children were older. She enjoyed being close to her extended family. They moved to Camperville, MB and then she moved on to Swan River, MB after her children grew up. She became involved with the Hero Club and enjoyed many activities and outings, especially the Swan River Rodeo. Doreen then moved to Dauphin, MB for a few years when she was frail and then relocated back to Swan River, MB once again when she became stronger.
