Dr. Concepcion "Connie" Ortiz Blake

Dr. Blake, Concepcion “Connie” Ortiz, 75, of Appomattox, Va. passed away on May 10, 2021 in the presence of her loving family. She is survived by her husband, David H. Blake; and their three sons, David H. Blake, II (wife Shelly); Dan Blake (wife Chris), and Don Blake (wife Cara). She is also survived by her siblings: Ernestina O. Garcia, Isabel O. Garza, Porfirio Ortiz, Jr., Joel Ortiz, Benjamin Ortiz, Antonio Ortiz, and Irma O. Widrick. She was predeceased by her parents, Porfirio Ortiz and Guadalupe Ortiz; and her siblings Hilario Ortiz, Ruperto Ortiz, Teodora O. Ponce, and Noemi O. Martinez. She was an extremely proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and was blessed to meet her first great grand-daughter in August 2019. After graduating high school in La Feria, Texas, she enlisted in the U.S. Women’s Army Corp, where she served from 1965 to 1966. It was during her time in the armed service stationed at Fort Lee that she met and married David. She worked hard and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Special Education from Radford College in 1984 and 1988, while raising their three children. After several years teaching special education in Roanoke, VA, she went on to earn her Ph.D. in Special Education Administration from The Ohio State University where she met many incredible friends (Go Bucks!). She continued to give selflessly as the Principal at Kingston School. Her dedication to helping children touched every aspect of her life and the lives of countless others. She will always be remembered for her warm smile, generosity, her insane cooking talents and her love of family, pets, travel, angels, Elvis, and so much more. The Family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 P.M.
