Dong Soo Kim

Dong Soo Kim, 85, of Mechanicsville, VA, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 10, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hannah Sook Paik; daughters, Susanna Kim Villano (Michael) and Stephanie Kim; sister, Soon Myung Kim; grandchildren, Marisa Simon (Erik), Mike Villano (Liz), Anthony Villano (Hind), Rocky Villano, Atlas “Maria” Wass and Julia Wass; and his great-granddaughter Shama Villano. Dr. Kim came to the United States in 1961 to pursue his degree in ministry at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He went on to receive his Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and finally he earned his Doctorate at the University of Chicago. Dr. Kim was a professor for over 30 years and retired from Norfolk State University. After retirement, he returned to Korea where he taught for 6 more years and published over 10 books. He also dedicated his life to peace, justice and the reunification of Korea. God blessed him with an extra 25 years after receiving a liver transplant. He also served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church where he proudly shared God’s Word with His people. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Lord Jesus Korean Church, 10201 Robious Rd, N Chesterfield, VA 23235.
