Virginia A. McCormick Enfield, Connecticut Obituary

Virginia A. McCormick

Virginia “Ginny” (nee Green) McCormick, 92, went on her final pudding May 8, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Ginny was born in Enfield to the late Sam and Irene Green. As a newlywed, she spent time in Ireland, immersing herself in the countryside and culture.  Several years later, Ginny, then husband Andy and 4 children moved to Suffield where she began restoring a 1700’s house which became the site of many memorable parties.  Never one to sit still, Ginny volunteered at the Suffield Players theater group, acting as President, costume designer, seamstress and, only when absolutely necessary, actor (begrudgingly).  She also volunteered at the Suffield Second Chance Shop. Ginny enjoyed a long, successful career at Smith& Wesson, earning the much-coveted title, “First Lady of Smith and Wesson”,by colleagues when she retired.  Thereafter, she and husband Bill bought an equestrian center in Belchertown, MA and opened InGate Farm, a popular Bed & Breakfast, earning fabulous reviews from guests, near and far. Ginny had a great sense of humor and could tell a story like no other. She was a voracious reader, interested in every genre, especially mysteries. She had a special flair for interior design, could wallpaper like no other and had the uncanny ability to magically restore any antique she touched, regardless of condition.  She liked to create any and everything and had a great eye for color. She loved sewing, needlepoint, music, old movies, all animals and a good cocktail.  Ginny was a friend to many, as evidenced by the full house at her 90th birthday party. Friends often remarked on her beautiful auburn hair and smile that brightened a room.  She is survived by her children, Samantha Loud, Andrea Schlakman (husband Rob), and Drew Keir (wife Diana), and grandchildren, Allison Beyer, Kyle Keir, Sam Keir and Daniel Schlakman, and daughter in law Linda Loud. She is predeceased by her parents, devoted husband Bill McCormick(“third time’s a charm”), friend/ex-husband Andy Keir, son Chris Loud and grandson Sean Loud. Sadly, she leaves behind her adored fox terrier, Wink, and several special friends.  A funeral service in celebration of Ginny's life will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield.  Guests are welcome to arrive up to 30 min prior to the service to greet the family.  Burial will follow in St Patrick King St Cemetery.  Donations in Ginny’s memory can be made to Old Friends Farm (oldfriendsequine.org) or the Village for Families and Children(thevillage.org).
