Jean Mountain Obituary

Jean Elizabeth (Duncan) Mountain went to the Lord on May 4, 2021.  Memorial service will be held Friday, May 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service at the church. Masks are optional.

Jean was born in the Neche area on April 1, 1936 to Leslie and Marjorie (Cameron) Duncan.  Jean attended Country School District for grades 1-8th and High School at Neche, ND.  Jean married W. Earl Mountain on October 25, 1953, Earl passed away on September 25, 2010.  Jean and Earl lived on the family farm in the Tyner area until 2000, then they moved into Cavalier, ND. 

Jean worked beside Earl on the family farm until Earl retired from farming.  Jean worked outside the home as a CNA at Pioneer Rest Home in Bathgate, ND and at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier.  She was a member of the Cavalier Presbyterian Church, served as an Elder, sang in choir, was a member of the Presbyterian Women’s club, and taught Sunday School for years.  Jean was a member of the Cavalier Curling Club and was an avid fan of all things curling.    She was a member and served various roles in Tea Time Homemakers and Pembina County Homemakers Organizations.  Jean served as a Den Leader in the Boy Scouts and a 4-H leader.  Jean loved to travel, she was game for all kinds of fun, must have been that April Fools birthday.  Jean enjoyed having family and friends over, it was a treat for visitors to have farm fresh vegetables.

Jean is survived by her three children, Kaye (Ervin) Sott of Cavalier, ND, Sue (Greg) Fritz of Pembina, ND and Scott Mountain of Cavalier, ND.  Two Grandchildren, Shawn Sott (Fargo, ND) and Ryan (Nicole) Sott, Hettinger, ND and 3 Great grandchildren, Trevor Sott (Fargo, ND) and Brodie and Elizabeth Sott (Hettinger, ND).  Sister Margaret (Duncan) Hill and Sandra McNutt.  Jean was preceded in death by her husband W. Earl Mountain, Sister Mary Lou Duncan, Brother John Leslie Duncan and sister in law Margot Duncan, sister in law Jean (Mountain) Cameron, Nephews Thomas Cameron and James Cameron.
