Maria Athanasopoulos

Maria Athanasopoulos passed away on December 10, 2015 at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Twp. at the age of 74. She was born on February 7, 1941 in Nafpaktos, Greece; daughter of Thomas and Dora Karvouris. Maria and her husband Apostolos immigrated to the United States in 1967 to start a new life together. Maria was proud of her Greek heritage. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed providing meals for her family. She will be remembered for her feistiness and humor. She loved wearing and owning extravagant jewelry. She is survived by her loving sons Thomas and Nick Athanasopolous, and daughter Dora Bliznik (Courtney). She adored her grandson Allen McKee. She will be reunited in Heaven with her husband Apostolos, son George, and daughter Renee McKee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Trisagion will be recited at 5:00 pm. Mrs. Athanasopoulos will lie instate on Monday from 9:30 until the time of the funeral at 10:00 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd., St Clair Shores. Father Michael Varlamos will officiate. Maria will be interred next to her beloved Apostolos at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Clinton Twp. Funeral Home: A. H.
