Irene "Chris" D. Stowell

Irene "Chris" Stowell passed away on April 16, 2016 at Sunrise on Mack at the age of 95. She was born in Sidney, Michigan on July 5, 1920; daughter of Neal and Gladdis (nee Coles) Christoffersen. Chris served proudly in the United States Army during WWII in the South Pacific Theater. She attained the rank of First Lieutenant as a nurse. Shortly after the war she worked at Coldwater State Home for Children. On June 14, 1947 she married Pat Stowell in Coldwater, Michigan. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage until Pat's death in 2008. Mrs. Stowell truly enjoyed life. She loved boating, traveling, and playing Bridge. She will be remembered for her great laugh. The Stowells lived in Lansing for most of their lives. When they retired in 1988, the family lived on their boat "Tanqueray" and traveled all over the east coast and great lakes. Mrs. Stowell is survived by her loving daughters Shawn Vinson (John) and Susan Allison (Richard). She was predeceased by her daughter Stacy. She was very proud of her granddaughter Shawn Jesgarz (Nate) and grandson John Stowell Vinson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 am until the time of her funeral service at 10:30 am at St. James Lutheran Church, 170 McMillan Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms. Reverend Denise Grant will officiate. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing. Memorial contributions may be to St. James Lutheran Church, 170 McMillan Rd., Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236 or the Salvation Army, Eastern Michigan Division, 16130 Northland Dr., Southfield, MI 48075.
