Dr. Jared Warner Stark III Orion, Michigan Obituary

Dr. Jared Warner Stark III

Dr. Jared Warner Stark III, age 82, longtime resident and pediatrician of Rochester Hills, died on May 3, 2021. He was the loving husband of many years to fellow physician, Catherine (Biegun) Stark. Jay was born February 13, 1939 in Detroit to Jared W. Stark, Jr and Norine (Pocock) Stark. He was the beloved brother to William and to his late sister, Jerine Peterson. Jay graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Life Sciences (1962), and from Stanford University with a Doctorate in Medicine (1967). He joined the United States Navy in 1969, where he served honorably in Dam Neck, Virginia, until discharge in 1971 as a Lieutenant Commander. While serving a residency in pediatrics at the University of Michigan, Jay met his first wife, Nanette Hennig. He is survived by their four children and five grandchildren: Jared IV, Stephen, Susan (Jason Lichtstein, and their children Gordon, Adeleigh, and Caroline), and Timothy (Rebecca Tang, and their daughters Olivia and Isla). Jay was the devoted husband to Cathy since their marriage in 1990, and lovingly helped raise Cathy’s children: Charles Forton (Michelle Conner, and their daughters Julie Lynn, Grace, Charlotte, and Cecilia), William Forton (Emily Borths, and their sons Andrew, Adam, and Ryan), Jessica (Kevin Link, and their children Benjamin and Penelope), and Daniel Forton (Jessie Kramer, and their children Charlotte and Cecily). In addition to Jay’s large and loving family, he was well-known in his adopted home of Rochester Hills, where he served as a pediatrician from 1971 until retirement in 2013. He had a large heart and used his great skill to care for thousands of children through the years. His lifelong intellectual curiosity led to many hobbies and interests, from ham radio, computer building and programming, aviation, rocket ships, and politics. In his later years, Jay loved to spend time at their home in northern Michigan, enjoying many sunsets over the lake, and working in the woods clearing brush with his brother Bill. Jay and Cathy hosted many large family gatherings at their cottage in Bellaire, which became a favorite spot for their many children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He instilled lifelong love of learning in his children, which he proudly saw as one of his greatest accomplishments. All eight of his children are grateful for his love and the lessons they learned by his example and encouragement. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rochester. In addition, a visitation will be held at Modetz Funeral Home Silverbell Chapel in Orion on Thursday, May 6 (2 p.m. – 8 p.m.). He will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.

Just found out that Dr. Stark passed and was so sad that his family wasn’t able to insist in on his retirement before his decline. I’m sure he was once a good pediatrician. With therapy, we have recovered. He’s in a better place now. May he rest in peace.

My wife and I were very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Stark. Beginning in 1974, he was the pediatrician for our three children and for several of our grandchildren. He was a consummate medical professional and an all-around "good guy." The photo captures ... Continue Reading
