Roy Whitehead

Roy Whitehead, 61, of La Porte, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones Monday, May 3, 2021 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City. He was born January 26, 1960, in Pineville, Kentucky, to Taylor Whitehead Jr and Edna Mae (Caldwell) Whitehead. Roy took extreme pride in his work as a carpenter at Michiana Construction & Management Inc. where he worked for 26 years. He was a very private person but enjoyed spending time with a few close friends and family. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and he was always the first one to arrive at the family gathering and the first one in line when it was time to eat. Roy enjoyed working on race cars, restoring his 1900’s farm house and building shelters for wildlife. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog, Jake and cat, Fat Baby. Surviving are his father, Taylor Whitehead Jr. of La Porte; three siblings, Phyllis (Roger) Howard of Michigan City and Bonnie (Bob) Salak and Charles (Shawna) Whitehead both of La Porte; nieces, Veronica (Chris) Tsitrian and Carla (Travis) Glossenger; nephew, Jason Dierdorf, who was like a son to him; and many great nieces and nephews. Preceding in death is his mother, Edna Mae (Caldwell) Whitehead. Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
