Helen was born on April 3, 1925 at Goodeve, Sask. to Panko and Anna Daviduke, one of ten children. On September 2, 1951 Helen married Harold Parno. On March 8, 1959 their daughter, Brenda Gale, was born. Helen finished her public school at Stryj School and high school at Tugasky, Sask. After finishing school Helen took business courses at Success Business College in Regina while working part time for Walter M. Logan Insurance. Helen joined the Royal Bank of Canada’s Ituna branch in July 1947 beginning a career that lasted 35 years. Over that time she held various positions and in 1967 Helen was one of just three women to hold the position of Branch Administration Officer in Saskatchewan. Helen retired from the Royal Bank in 1985 to help Harold run and operate the family business, Parno Meats. Throughout her life Helen was involved in a number of local organizations. These included the Hospital Auxiliary, the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and the Senior’s Social Club. Many of those years she was Treasurer of each. Helen enjoyed gardening, cooking, working with community groups, curling, bowling, playing cards, especially 3 Spot, and spending time with family. Helen was predeceased by Harold her beloved husband and companion of 39 years. Her parents as well as seven sisters and two brothers. Helen is survived by daughter Brenda (Lorne Vinish) granddaughter, Jillian Paulsen (Mark) and great granddaughter Emma Rose Paulsen. At Helen’s request there will be no public memorial. A Private Graveside Service will be held in May 2021. Memorial donations may be made to the Village of Hubbard (designate the Cemetery Fund in cheque memo) c/o Box 441 Ituna, SK S0A 1N0 as gifts of remembrance. You can shed tears that she is gone, Or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live in yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she’s gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what she’d want: Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
