Doreen Harper Obituary

Doreen (Campbell) Harper, 73
Bras d’Or

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and dear friend, Doreen (Campbell) Harper on November 27, 2014, at home, surrounded by family and her best friends.
Born in New Waterford on May 4, 1941, Doreen was the daughter of the late Gordon and Marie Campbell of New Waterford.
She was a stay at home mom and homemaker most of her life, but did work for a short time at the Salvation Army Day Care in North Sydney. She babysat many children in her home. She absolutely loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and her siblings and also her dearest friends Georgie and Bob ....especially Georgie, who was such a true friend and confidante.
She travelled around Cape Breton and the Atlantic provinces following her grandchildren playing their much loved sports of baseball and hockey. She was a true baseball grandmother to her oldest grandson Justin, following him and the Sydney Sooners across the province. She was the oldest sibling in her family, and was their strength and friend to each and every one of them. She will be truly missed by them. The past few months she showed her family and friends great courage and strength. She taught us so much in dealing with her illness. We find great comfort knowing she is reunited with our dad and the love of her life.
She is survived by her children; daughter Anna Marie (Pete) Brewer, and her son Sheldon. Also left to mourn are her grandsons Justin (Mary Beth), Stephen, Andrew, Wesley, her only granddaughter Graylen, her great-granddaughter Molly Faith Brewer, brothers Jer (Makeo) Halifax, Mergie (Patsy) New Waterford, Sheldon (Linda), Harve Boucher and Gordie(Theresa), New Waterford, sisters Frances(Ontario) and Colleen(Gerry) New Waterford, her sister-in-law Billie MacIsaac, New Waterford, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John (Jackie), great-grandson Jack Brewer, and by brothers Francis and Martin in infancy.
Doreen’s family will receive visitors in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Monday, December 1, 2014, from 1-2 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place in the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

Miss me, but let me go.

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no tears in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your heads bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared.....Miss me but let me go, for this is a journey that all must take and each much go alone. It’s all a part of the master's plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends you know, and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me, but let me go....
