William P. Wohlever Obituary

William “Willie” P. Wohlever,  88 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 26, 1933, in Amherst where he was a lifetime resident, graduating from Amherst High School with the class of 1951, where he excelled in sports.  

He was employed at BF Goodrich in Avon for over twenty-five years and also served on the Amherst  Fire Department for thirty-three years.  He delivered flowers for many years for the Zilch Florist Shop.  A hard worker all his life, Bill as a youngman worked the local rubbish reclamation route with his father.  Bill was an active lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst where he loved serving and volunteering his time.  Bill loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and was an active supporter of Comet Athletics including the Amherst Comet Relays. He enjoyed working in his yard and being outdoors. Bill was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University fan. The greatest joy was the time he spent with his family. 
 
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Elizabeth “Betty” Wohlever(nee: Muska); his children, Richard Wohlever of Lorain, Thomas “Thom” Wohlever, Diane Hamilton (Patrick), Ann Walters (Michael) all of Amherst and Lisa O’Connor (Chuck) of Collins; his grandchildren, Jennifer Drop (Brian), Trisha Wohlever, Michael Hamilton, Sarah Simmons (Andrew) Thomas Wohlever; his great grandchildren, Katelyn Drop, Jason Drop and Aria Barbera; and his brother, Paul “Dave” Wohlever (Sue) Wohlever of Amherst

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Fuller in 2021; his grandchildren, Erin Wohlever and PJ Hamilton; his brother, Lawrence J. Wohlever; and his parents, Paul William and Julia Wohlever (nee: Penzes).

Public visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 2-7 p.m. at  Hempel Funeral Home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst.  Due to Covid-19, we are asking that people wear a mask and maintain social distances. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at http://www.hempelfuneralhome.com/ . The Rev. Fr. Timothy O’Connor, pastor will officiate.  Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.
