LANCASTER- Gary R. Elliott, 61, of Portland Street, died unexpectedly at his home of from an accidental drug overdose after a long battle of drug addiction on Friday, April 9, 2021. He was born March 13, 1960 in Lancaster, the son of Robert and Helen (Donnelly) Elliott. He attended White Mountain Regional High School. Gary worked as a carpenter for most of his life and was self-employed for a short time. He also was a retired member of the New Hampshire National Guard. On August 15, 1981 he married Lea Kay in Lancaster and the couple spent most of their married life in Lancaster and Groveton. She passed away in October of 2020, also as a results of drug addiction. Addiction has hit the family awfully close to home. They hope that those that read this will reach out to a loved one suffering with addiction. Even more so we hope that anyone out there currently struggling will reach out. Help is out there. No matter what you are doing today, if you are still alive there is hope of a better tomorrow. Addiction effects the entire family, and our entire community. In the loss of Gary it is also important to remember that although addiction ultimately claimed his life, he was so much more, a man that lived, laughed, smiled and loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his daughter Wendy Bennett and her husband, Floyd (Jay) of Maidstone, VT, a granddaughter Katherine Boivin and her husband, Josh of York, SC, two grandsons John Armstrong of Laconia, NH and William Armstrong of Boscawen, NH, along with four great-grandchildren Cole, Clayton, Magnolia and Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a son Glenn Lurvey Jr in September of 2020. There are no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
