Jane Ryba Obituary

Jane Ilda Ryba, began her life at a time when the great depression ended and Americans began celebrating the end of prohibition. Our president was Franklin D. Roosevelt and leading our country into WWII. Mom was born May 28, 1933, in Burlington, New Jersey to the late William W. & Norene B. Johnson. She had an older brother William (Bill) W. Johnson Jr married Katie Johnson who together raised a wonderful family there. She met and married our father Ronald S. Ryba in 1954 (divorced in 1978). We moved to Birchwood Lakes in 1962 where all of our memories seemed to begin. She had a large family five kids and a dog named Saber. She was a homemaker at that time and loved to cook. She appreciated the woods and lakes especially when it froze over for skating. She valued all its natural beauty and freedom it offered us, kids. Her involvement with us thru sports, friends, school, rides to and from practice, and games was a full-time job. She sacrificed a lot for us all. She was very social and maintained relationships on many levels with our family’s relatives and friends. She would reminisce often that we lived in the most perfect location with five kids. Looking back, it all seemed like a magical time. Jane was a member of Medford Lakes Country Club and was an avid golfer. She had a love for reading and writing though raising five kids may have snuffed out that extracurricular activity. She did manage to write her memoirs and a few beautiful poems. She was a voracious reader and appreciated poetry as much as a good novel. She is the only person I knew who had a subscription to every newspaper in the area and read them cover to cover. She also loved to sew and knit and took it upon herself to knit Afghans for all her children and grandchildren. As time moved on, she became involved with Virtua Hospital, knitting blankets and hats for all newborns. She loved to cook and always talked about those special times making breakfast for our Shawnee football teams …and the stories she heard! She eventually learned to stop asking questions. She lived the last years of her life at Holiday Village in Mt. Laurel where she maintained old friendships while developing new ones…she never knew a stranger! In time our family thought it best to relocate her Tampa FL near our brother Mike and his wife Maria to enjoy some easier living and a sunnier lifestyle. It was not easy for her, even on a good day she still missed her NJ home, friends, and family terribly. She struggled with Degenerative Heart Disease and breathing along with other complications ensued. After her first shot of her vaccine, she contracting Covid 19. The consensus was that it helped pull her through. She struggled and rebounded enough to relocate her, once again, to a healthier place with our brother Stan and wife Lisa and family in Myrtle Beach, SC where she seemed to be improving well with plenty of TLC. As she put the Florida experience behind her, she finally seemed content and settled. Once again, a sudden health issue snuck back in to wreak havoc on her lungs. Her “do not resuscitate” order came into play and she passed in her sleep the morning of April 9th, 2021. We all took solace in the fact that she …was… ready. Jane Ryba is survived by her five children, Steven Ryba (Lauren), of Dallas, TX, Stanley Ryba (Lisa), of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ron Ryba, Jr. of Annapolis, MD, Michael Ryba (Maria) of Tampa, FL, and Patrice Ryba Lanni (Patrick) of Mt Laurel, NJ; her grandchildren: Emilee Ryba, Clayton Ryba, Kristen Brenneman, Zach Ryba, Matt Ryba, Kevin Ryba, Kevin Callahan, Bridgette Ryba, Chelsea Corbett, Ricky Engel-Ryba, and Melanie Corbett; three great-grandchildren, Ruby Ryba Hamilton, Noah Brenneman, Bellamy Brenneman; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. Our Mothers final words are that she wants all her children and grandchildren to know how much she truly loved us all and how much joy and happiness we brought her. She also felt so fortunate to have been surrounded all her life with so many good friends. From good friends come good memories and she valued them all. Someone once said “to have a friend you have to be a friend” I think she did exactly that. Her friends made life a little easier when times were not so good and that laughter and humor are so important to help keep life’s perspective. “Don’t sweat the small stuff” (a title of one of her favorite books) she would say. If we don’t sweat the small stuff, we won’t have to make it to the bigger stuff! Enjoy life and don’t wait too long to make those moves. Smile and laugh often and let humor be you friend.
