George Spain Obituary

George Spain, 91, a resident of Sorrel, LA and native of Bayou, Sale, LA, passed away peacefully on Friday April 9, 2021 at 11:47 A. M. at his residence.

Visitation will be observed on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church, 305 6th Street Franklin, LA from 9:00 AM until funeral services at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Deandre Johnson, officiating and Pastor Kevin T. Jenkins serving as the Eulogist. (All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC/local regulations by wearing masks and practicing social distancing). Burial will follow funeral services in the Sorrel Community Cemetery in Sorrel, LA. Services will be accessible by viewing the Jones Funeral Home, Inc. Facebook Page at 11:00 A. M. on Saturday, April 24, 2021. 

Memories of George will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Cyndia Silas Spain of Sorrel, LA; children, Yvette (Brad) Tyler, Bessie (Murphy) Daurbigny, Joseph (Shawn) Silas all of Jeanerette, LA, Mary Lee (Rickey) Archangel and Irma Lee Spain of Port Arthur, TX, Jerome (Michelle) Silas, Jermaine (Nancy) Silas, Mark (Mable) Silas, George (Shirley) Washington, Jr. all of New Iberia, LA, Williams Jenkins of Jennings, LA; one sister, Rosetta Gray Blanks of Franklin, LA; thirty-six grandchildren, ninety great-grandchildren, forty-four great-great grandchildren; six brothers-in-law, ten sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his children, Mary Ann Washington, Mary Louise Spain, Joseph Washington, and Esther Moore; parents, Ms. Linny Johnson and John Spain; sisters, Ernestine Washington, Martha Merrick, and Rose Mae Gash Spain; brothers, James Spain and Reverend Joseph Gash; grandchildren, George Washington, III, Glenn Daurbigny, JuanDre Gilliams, Kenderin Washington, and Dustin Garrett; his mother-in-law, Alma Navy and father-in-law, Leon (Enola) Silas, Sr.
