Wayne Mills, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday April 8, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, after a long illness. Visitation: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a Rosary Service beginning at 4 p.m. Private Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Reverend Doug Loecke. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Patsy; children, Dorothy “Dot” (Rick) Pask, Tammy (Mark) Latta, Dennis Mills, Michael (Kelly) Mills, and Amy Mills; twelve grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandsons with one on the way; and many extended family members and friends. Wayne Francis Mills was born May 25, 1933 to Walter and Myrtle (Flanagan) Mills in Cedar Rapids. He became a “Navy man” in 1951, serving as a radio and radar operator until 1955. Wayne met Patsy Piercy at Danceland, and were married November 26, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a metal fabricator for Farmstead for 29 years. Wayne was a friend of Bill W. He was a long-time member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Wayne enjoyed creating wood crafts with special sayings to give away, always tending to his vegetable gardens—especially on the hobby farm acreage and proudly sharing the vegetables, and feeding the birds and squirrels. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gordon. Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in memory of Wayne.
