Pauline Elizabeth Guthrie Taylor

Pauline Taylor, of Lynchburg, died April 8, 2021. In 2008, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death, by her beloved husband of 66 years, J. Kenneth Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was born in Nathalie, Virginia, the daughter of Claude Mason Guthrie and Lena Banks Guthrie. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Mason “Junior” Guthrie, Jr., Eugene “Gene” Breckenridge Guthrie, and one sister, Cornelia Guthrie Short and her son-in-law, John W. Cocke. She is survived by her sister Janie Crews of Nathalie. She is survived by daughters Joan Taylor Cocke of Lynchburg and Dawn Dixon (Gordon) of Kure Beach, North Carolina. Mrs. Taylor, “Nana”, leaves behind grandchildren Lisa Bradley (Scott) of Louisburg, North Carolina, Joel Andrew Cooke (Laura) of Arlington; Breck Dixon (Alyson), of Houston and Sean Dixon of Kure Beach. She leaves five great grandsons, Tanner Bradley (Miranda), Cameron Bradley, Henry Cooke, Simon Cooke, and Rivers Dixon, and one great-great grandson, Brayden Bradley. Mrs. Taylor was a longtime member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church where she had previously been active in the Forest Oglesby Sunday school class. She was also an auxiliary volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital for more than 50 years. Mrs. Taylor and her husband Kenneth had enjoyed world travel and were especially fond of visits to Hawaii. In more recent years she delighted in the company of her family at annual vacations to Topsail Beach, North Carolina. She had also enjoyed hosting bountiful family meals for Easter and Thanksgiving at her Bedford Hills home. A graveside funeral service will be held in Spring Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Marc Brown and the Rev. Janet D. Hawkins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Auxiliary of Centra Lynchburg General Hospital or Fort Hill United Methodist Church.
