Jean was born August 19, 1925 to parents, Leon and Martha Knight in Great Bend, Kansas.  They relocated to Marion in 1929 along with sisters, Barbara Lea and LaVerna Mae, where her father opened the J.C. Penney store.  Jean joined the Valley United Methodist church in 1937 and remained a faithful member for the rest of her life.  

Jean's father died suddenly in 1942, requiring the girls to summon the strength to help their mother through the hard time.  She graduated from high school in 1943 and worked a number of jobs in Marion.  Jean appreciated being recognized as someone who played hard, but was still a lady and a good sport.  

Jean married Bud Pierce in 1946 and they served as stalwarts of the Marion community until his death in 2007.  They were known throughout Kansas since Bud called square dances for 26 years.  Jean enjoyed her work in Marion, and had a passion for gardening at 303 Locust Street.  

Jean is survived by nieces and nephews Jill (Ron) Miller, Grapevine, Tx., Marty (Chuck) Heigert, Alma, Ks., Mark Kline, Istanbul, Turkey, and Brook Beaston, Jackson, Tn. 5 great nieces and nephew, 5 great-great nieces and nephew,  and many good friends, all of whom she treasured. She was often referred to as a "fun" aunt, as well as being nurturing and supportive, as she had no children of her own.  Family and friends always enjoyed her spirit, energy, and dry humor.  

She appreciated the love and excellent care she received at Marion Assisted Living in her last years.

In lieu of flowers, it was Jean's wish that memorials be made to the Valley Methodist Church and the St. Luke Hospital Foundation.
