Bertha Virginia Walker

Mrs. Bertha Virginia Withers Walker, 90, was born in Mount Mourne, NC on June 30, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Lee and Mary Marsha Mayhew Withers. She departed this life surrounded by family at her home on Friday, April 9, 2021.

She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and attended Statesville Covenant Cathedral. At an early age, she attended Watkins Chapel until she later married Eugene Walker and moved to Louisiana. While in Louisiana, she attended Mt Earia CME Church of Jonesboro, LA.

She was twice married, first to Franklin Eugene Caldwell and second to Eugene Walker, both of whom, preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by a son, Franklin "Frankie" Eugene Caldwell, Jr., her sister, Elizabeth (Milton) Jones and a sister-in-law, Anna Withers.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, five children, Deidre Elizabeth Sloan of Statesville, Cynthia Dale Caldwell of the home, Sylvia Gail (Phillip) Tatum of Statesville, Mary Jewel (Matthew) Alpeter of Belmont and Lawrence Wayne Caldwell of Gastonia; a brother, Lovie Lee Wither of Charlotte; grandchildren, William Caldwell of Concord, Sheldon (Shelia) Sloan and Christy Sloan, both of Statesville, Michelle Caldwell, Serika Tatum, and Stephen Tatum, all of Charlotte, Brandi Tatum and Phillip Tatum, both of Statesville, Lawrence (Shaunnalyn) Caldwell and Jason Caldwell, both of Charlotte, William Caldwell of Kannapolis, and Jonathan Caldwell of Charlotte; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special family, The Jones family, Lloyd Rucker and The Rucker Family and her special friends Miss Sally Adams, Merline Lawery, Linda and Fred Spense of Hodge,La and Betty Palmer and family. Chris Caldwell lives in Texas with his wife Courtney.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Horizon Church. Pastor Jason Bost will officiate.
