Arlene A. Bobnak Obituary

Age: 88 of Newtown Square, PA, formerly of East Lansdowne, PA (nee Kosko) Passed away peacefully on April 7, 2021 after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of George J. Bobnak since 1957 and the beloved mother of Michael J. (Kathryn), George S. “Jerry” (Shawn Pritchett), Paul T. (Dee Wieczorek), and Laura A. Zurita (Jeff), and the cherished grandmother of Gillian E. Bobnak and Matthew A. Zurita. Born in Scranton, PA in 1932, Arlene was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (nee Warner) Kosko. A member of St. John the Baptist Church in West Scranton, she graduated from Scranton Central High School and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. From the time she graduated, Arlene was an exemplary nurse. She loved her many years at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, caring for the babies in the nursery. Later, she became head of the Student Health Center at St. Joseph’s University. She enjoyed working with students and rooting for the Hawks until her retirement in 1998. Arlene and George lived briefly in Newark, NJ. Then the family made their home in East Lansdowne from 1960 until 2014. Once settled, Arlene became an active member of St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, volunteering at school, blood drive, carnival, and most fulfilling to her, serving as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Volunteering ran even deeper in Arlene’s devotion to Monsignor Bonner High School. With her best friend and neighbor Jane Berry, she raised thousands to support the school; most significantly through the legendary Mothers’ Club trips they planned and hosted. She had many great memories travelling with friends to sights around the world. An avid reader and a lifelong learner, Arlene excelled at making party foods and special decorated cakes for any occasion, even multi-tiered wedding cakes. Most of all, Arlene enjoyed being with her family at her beloved home at the lake in the Poconos. Her generosity, compassion, adventurousness, and graceful service will be missed by all. In addition to her loving husband and family Arlene is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her brother Charles (Betty Ann) predeceased her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Arlene's viewing on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, 19073,where her funeral mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Mass will be livestreamed by St. Anastasia’s through the following link: https://saintanastasia.net/ Burial will be at the family’s convenience at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Scranton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to The Augustinian Fund, Care of the Sick and Elderly, P.O. Box 340 Villanova, PA 19085.
