Madelyn H. Hauser San Antonio, Texas Obituary

Madelyn H. Hauser

Madelyn Horner Hauser, age 97 went home to the Lord on April 5, 2021. She was born in San Antonio to Madelyn Gentzen Horner and Bernard Justin Horner. She had one brother, Bernard “Bubba” Horner. St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in downtown San Antonio was an integral part of her heart and soul throughout her lifetime. Her maternal grandparents took her to church regularly. The story goes that her grandmother would stick her in the back with her cane and would say, “Sit up front and show some conviction!” And so her journey with Christ began. Madelyn sang in the youth choir, worshiped and held leadership positions at St. Mark’s. Madelyn attended Jefferson High School in San Antonio and the University of Texas in Austin. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Her University education was cut short when World War II broke out. She went to California with her family to await her father’s, a Colonel in the Army, orders. Her father was sent to Europe to serve our county. The family returned to San Antonio where Madelyn stayed active at St. Mark’s and supported the war effort. It was while attending a Church Council meeting that she met her husband to be, Stanley F. Hauser. Their friends, Joe and Stella Brown set up a double date with them. Shortly thereafter, they became engaged and married the following year. Stanley was a circuit preacher in West Texas for five Episcopal Churches (1948 – 1950). Their first church home was in Menard, Texas. Then they moved to Sonora, Texas. Madelyn was involved in all of Stanley’s churches. From Sonora, their growing family moved to Charles Town, West Virginia, then back to Houston, Texas and in 1968 back to San Antonio and St. Mark’s church. Love of The Lord, her family and friends gave Madelyn a rich and happy life. Some of her happiest relationships were formed with friends from the Bethel Bible Series, the Community of Hope, volunteering at the old Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas and her Wednesday Bible Study at Cathedral House in San Antonio. She was also a member of Our Reading Club and loved the friends and mental stimulation it provided. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, and her eldest daughter, Mary Madelyn (Lyn). She is survived by her daughter Christine Hauser Hausser (Bobby), sons; Stanley Justin Hauser (Kim), Mark Andrew Hauser and John Clay Hauser. Her grandchildren are Carrie Skinner Haden (Chris), Carlye Skinner Glowacki (Ryan), Rob Hausser, Madelyn Hauser Kelly, Martha Hauser Cendan (Mario) and Andrew Hauser. Her great grandchildren are William Hauser Haden, Loren Stanley Haden, Alexander Michel Glowacki, Madelyn Elena Glowacki, Erin Mae Kelly, Shay Kimberly Kelly, Savannah Rose Cendan and Amelia Mae Cendan. She also had a beloved Goddaughter, Kathy Towers. Madelyn also loved and was loved by her caregivers Pamela Nichols and Angelia Benson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church located at 315 East Pecan, San Antonio, Texas 78205. A service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on April 24, 2021 at 10:30AM. Space is limited, to reserve a place call 210-822-0725 and leave a message with your name and the number of people attending.
