Robert "Bob" Thornton Haines Obituary

Robert “Bob” Thornton Haines, 90, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Westminster, MD, died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at UPMC Hospital in Hanover, PA.

Born March 24, 1931 in Westminster, Maryland, he was the son of the late Thornton E. and Violet M. (Gist) Haines.  Twice married, Bob was pre-deceased by his first wife, Faye A. Haines, and is survived by his second wife of 35 years, Carole Haines.

Bob was a proud and patriotic American, who served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was retired after 40 years in 1992 as a salesman and deliveryman with the Coca-Cola Corporation.  Bob then worked for many years with the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home as an associate and funeral assistant.  He was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, life-long member of Post#31 American Legion and Post#467 V.F.W. in Westminster.  He was very active in the local Westminster community and was always willing to help anyone in need.  Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving in addition to his wife Carole are sons, Randy Haines and wife Jeannie of TX, Leroy Haines, Marc Haines and wife Donna of Taneytown; daughters, Robbin Mueller and Lisa Gooch both of VA.; step-children, David and Daniel Lenick, and Kathleen Branson; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren. 

He was pre-deceased by son, Jeffrey (Neal) Haines; and brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth and Edward Haines.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster with Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. (For those unable to attend, services will be live-streamed at https://www.facebook.com/MDFHWestminster)  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.  Private burial with military honors will follow at Deer Park Methodist Cemetery in Smallwood.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at (https://www.dav.org/).
