Morton James Cook Obituary

Long time Juneau resident, Morton James Cook, 86, passed away March 28, 2021, surrounded by his family. Mort was born in 1934 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. After high school, he married his high school sweet-heart, Lois, in 1953. He joined the Coast Guard in 1953 for four years, and thereafter attended Michigan Tech College graduating as a Civil Engineer in 1961. He and his family then came to Alaska in 1962 where he worked for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities until retirement in 1985. In retirement he enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting and traveling to Arizona in the winter. He is survived by Lois, his wife of 67 years, and his daughter, Jeanette (Fishel) Slaugenhaupt and her husband, Alan, of Buhl, Idaho, his son, Alfred M. Cook of Juneau, Alaska, and his daughter Kathy Jo Purpura and her husband, George, of Mesa, Arizona, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held April 23, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Mort and Lois’ home.
