Bernard "Butch" Downey Jr.
Bernard Leroy "Butch" Downey, Jr., of Taylorville, Illinois, formerly of Metcalf, Illinois, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He had previously worked many years in construction. He was born January 11, 1943, in Champaign County, Illinois, the son of the late Bernard L. and Della Jane (Phillips) Downey Sr. Survivors include five daughters, Kay Lynn Downey of St. Bernice, Indiana, Laura (Robert) Clark of Paris, Illinois, Jeanette Taylor of Paris, Illinois, Jeanna (Tim) Waln of Coral Springs, Florida, and Lana (Jeff Lawyer) Waln of Covington, Indiana; a brother, Neil Downey of Hume, Illinois; as well as seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four nieces, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sandra L. Downey; a sister, Nancy Sharp; a granddaughter, Ashley Clark; and a grandson, Kaleb Clark. Mr. Downey enjoyed quilting and loved his alma mater, Young America High School. SERVICE INFORMATION Visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Templeton Funeral Home in Paris. Interment will be private in Young America Cemetery, north of Hume, at a later date.
