Frances "Fran" Coffey Obituary

Frances Davis (Fran) Coffey, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died on Friday, September 09, 2016. Fran was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on October 30, 1934 to Harold and Vernice Davis. She spent much of her early life in Cooperton, Oklahoma before her family moved to Roff prior to her senior year in high school. Fran graduated from Roff High School in 1952, where she met the love of her life, Jack Coffey. After graduation, Fran attended Oklahoma State University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and graduated with degrees in Elementary Education and Home Economics. During the time that Fran was at OSU, she continued to date her high school sweetheart, Jack, who was a student in the Pharmacy program at the University of Oklahoma. Even that school rivalry couldn't keep them apart. Fran and Jack were married in Roff on August 11, 1956. They then lived in Norman while Jack completed his pharmacy training and Fran taught school in Oklahoma City. After Jack's graduation, they moved to Shawnee for a year, where Jack worked in a local pharmacy. After one year, Jack returned to the Air Force to complete his ROTC commitment and they moved to Blakeney England where they lived for nearly 4 years. During that time, they traveled to many countries and developed a lifelong love for travel that carried them to 17 countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Holy Land. Throughout all of her travels, Fran's favorite trip was to the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem. After Jack completed his service commitment, they settled in Shawnee, their home for more than 40 years, where they had two daughters, Allyson and Catherine. Fran was a woman of many talents. She was an exceptional seamstress, making her own clothes for many years contributing to her being a local fashion plate! She played tennis throughout her life and passed this love to Allyson, Catherine, and her grandchildren Madison and Jackson. Fran also was very active in her community, serving as president of the Shawnee Junior Service League, St. Paul's Mother's Club, and Alpha Mother's Club. Everyone who knew Fran knew that nothing was more important to her than her family. She was smart and kind, and quietly went about the business of taking care of and doting on her family. Fran and Jack celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 11, 2016. They shared the rare kind of love and devotion that it takes to be committed to one another for 60 years. Fran is survived by her loving husband, Jack Coffey, her daughters Allyson Coffey (Cyndi) and Catherine Ross (Chris), her beloved grandchildren Madison and Jackson Ross, her sister Barbara Pybas, her brother-in law Kenny Coffey (Lisa), sister-in-law Gail Coffey Breckenridge(John), nephews Casey Coffey (Corin), Andrew Davis (Jessica), and Harold Stephens (Tammi), nieces Margaret Lopez (Juan), Pat Priest (John), Lou Ann McFall (Ed), Jamai Freeman-Kee (Steven), Grace Pybas, Amanda Davis (Robert) and Terri Stephens Green (Larry) many cousins, and their families. Many dear friends also survive Fran - especially her friends from Gourmet Club, who she ate, drank, and laughed with for over 35 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Ted and Nancy Davis, and sister and brother-in-law Bette and Thurman Stephens. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 13, 2016 at10 am at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 14700 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73134 where she was a member. Say not in grief "she is no more" but live in thankfulness that she was. Hebrew Proverb
