Mary Fratino Mary Monica Fratino, 88, of Gambrills, died peacefully on March 28 at Anne Arundel Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born May 1, 1932, in Lonaconing, MD, Mary received a bachelor’s degree from the State Teachers College at Frostburg in 1954 and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland. Mary was an elementary school teacher in Montgomery County, later transitioning to a long career with the federal government, retiring from the Internal Revenue Service in 1999. She was a Telephone Reassurance volunteer at the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. For many years, Mary was active in various ministries at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton, including Winter Relief and serving as a Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed bible study, book club, tennis, cycling, bridge, swimming, gardening, basking in the sun on the beach in Hilton Head, SC, and, most of all, being the much loved Mom and Grandma/Mahgee/Gigi to her large family. Mary was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband, Donald Fratino, and in February by her brother, Dick McPartland. Surviving are her daughters Cathy Welker of Annapolis, Tracy (Joe) Williams of Crofton and Julie (Steve) Klipstein of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sisters Sally Borgman of Lonaconing and Pat Hyde of Westminster; grandchildren Amanda (Steve), Anna (Bill), Ben, Juliane, Matt, Tessa, John, Hannah (Caleb), Elise, Emma and Jack; and great-grandchildren Lily, Stevie, Ava, Olivia, Kaylee and one on the way. Due to COVID-19, a Mass of Christian Burial offered at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, will be private. The mass will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/SetonLiveStream. Memorial contributions in Mary Fratino’s name may be made to the Baltimore and Haiti sister parishes of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive, Crofton, MD 21114), or to the American Diabetes Association (ADA, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023 / www.diabetes.org).
