Ida Peterson Henning, Minnesota Obituary

Ida Peterson

Ida Bertina Isdal was born on March 27, 1919 to the late Carl and Magli (Langeland) Isdal on their family ranch 25 miles southwest of Lemmon, South Dakota; she was the fourth of five children. Ida attended country school 2 miles away from home and then graduated from Lemmon High School with the class of 1936. She attended Mankato Business College and soon after worked for the Federal Land Bank in Clairmont, Minnesota. Ida moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1938 to work in acquisitions at the State Capitol. On February 28, 1943 she was united in marriage to Alden Peterson at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul. In December of 1944 Ida and Alden made their home in Henning, Minnesota, where they owned and operated the Gambles store until 1977 and where they would live the remainder of their lives. Alden passed away on July 31, 1979. Ida was very active at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was a five-time President of WELCA and enjoyed being a part of the church food booth at the annual Henning Harvest Festival. She was very talented at quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and baking, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. She was always eager for a friendly but competitive game of cards, and for many years looked forward to her weekly game of cards with friends. Ida will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as a strong and independent woman, but more importantly, as a true example of patience, grace, wisdom, kindness, and virtue. Ida enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and they were blessed to have had her in their lives. On April 21, 2016, at the age of 97, Ida passed away peacefully with the gentle care of Country Living Adult Foster Care in Henning. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Welcoming Ida in heaven are her parents; husband, Alden Peterson; and three brothers, Lars, Alfred, and Arnold. Ida is survived by her loving family: sons Curt Peterson of Henning, Wayne (Phyllis) Peterson of Henning, James (Kathy) Peterson of Rochester, Minnesota, Robert Peterson of Henning, and Richard (Marlene) Peterson of Frazee, Minnesota; grandchildren Kim (Brent) Carlson of Rochester, Minnesota, Alex (Gerry) Peterson of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Andrea (Mike) Gerdts of Big Lake, Minnesota, Beth (Tim) Krebsbach of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mike (Ann) Peterson of Eagan, Minnesota, Ryan (Kristine) Peterson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Laurie (Tom)Bauer of Chicago, Illinois, and Erik Peterson of East Glacier, Montana; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Isdal, of Lemmon, South Dakota; many other relatives and a host of friends.
