Ruth Margaret (Richter) Cobbs

Peoria- Ruth Margaret (Richter) Cobbs, age 78, of Peoria, passed away at 12:58 PM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born June 24, 1942 in Peoria, a daughter to Lorenz Albert and Vivian Ruth Margaret (Perkins) Richter. She was a graduate of Dunlap High School, and on November 23, 1960 she married Raiford Cobbs at Dunlap United Methodist Church, and together they cherished 60 years of marriage. Ruth worked in sales most of her life for JCPenney, retiring in 2010. She was very active with the Dunlap High School Alumni Association. Ruth considered herself “just a farm girl from Alta,” who loved gardening, cooking, and animals, especially the birds and squirrels that her and her husband would feed in their back yard. She cherished the outdoors and loved nature. Ruth will always be remembered for her big heart, that knew no strangers, and was a friend to everyone. She was a devout wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who adored her family, was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Survivors include her husband Raiford of Peoria; two children: Teresa (Dennis) Smiciklas of New Braunfels, TX and Roland (Kristin) Cobbs of Peoria; five grandchildren: Ashley, Cody, Jesse, Austin and Taylor; one great grandson Colt and one great-granddaughter on the way; one sister Carol Clune of Peoria. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Virginia and one brother Lyle. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Rev. Bob Jordan will officiate.
