Because of her decision to follow Jesus Christ as her savior, Cheryl Strong Christian went to her heavenly home when she left this earth on Sunday, September 29, 2013. She was born to Horace and Maxine Strong in Houston on January 15, 1958. She is survived by both of her parents who now reside in the Old Prospect community of Rusk County, and her brothers Curtis Strong of Bryan and Barry Strong of Flower Mound.

Paul Christian had the privilege of becoming "part of the family" as he and Cheryl were united in marriage on August 25, 1979. They have made Nacogdoches their home for the past 34 years. Together they were blessed with three children - Anthony Christian of Lufkin, Alisha Weatherford of Appleby, and Alan Christian of Fort Worth. Among her greatest blessings in recent years have been her grandchildren - Hailey and Danielle Christian, and Hunter Weatherford. Her husband, children, and grandchildren all survive her as well. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Michelle Christian, son-in law Shea Weatherford, sisters-in-law Angela and Michelle Strong; neices and nephews Christine McAllister, her husband Ryan, and their daughter Abby,Christopher Strong and wife Shaina,Matthew Strong, Kelsey Strong, Kayla Strong, and Brittany Strong.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home. Her memorial service will be Friday, October 4, at 10 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Appleby, with Brother Steve Ewton leading the service. A graveside service will follow at Old Union Cemetery west of Nacogdoches. Family members who will serve as pallbearers include Randy Gallant, Ryan McAllister, Christopher Strong, Matthew Strong, Mark Strong, and Shea Weatherford.
