Fred Gene Carter - McNabb Funeral Home

Fred Gene Carter, 65, of Pocahontas passed away March 9, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Fred was born November 25, 1955 in Pocahontas to the late Clyde and Lorine Armstrong Carter. Fred, affectionately known as “Poppy” by his family and friends, devoted his life to being a successful Farmer and Family man. Fred loved his family with his whole heart and loved his life as a farmer. For 50 years, he put in a crop and always wanted just one more crop. He loved watching his grandsons play ball, spending time at the cattle farm and deer hunting. If he wasn’t working, you could bet he was enjoying time with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Gaye French Carter of Pocahontas. He was the daddy to Genee Carter, Leah Carter (Jeremy) Privett, and Ali Carter (Aaron) Brooks all of Pocahontas. He leaves behind his most loved grandsons Tristan Privett, Carter Privett, Jackson Privett, Nate Privett, Ace Brooks and Aiken Brooks. In addition, he is survived by brothers Gary “Monk” (Phyllis) Carter of St. Louis and Larry (Pat) Carter of Pocahontas and his in laws Jack and Christina French of Pocahontas. Fred had many special friends, two he loved dearly David Brown and Dave Wilson. Anyone that knew Fred knows he loved his farm. Some very important farming friends include Shannon Eveland, Jonathon “Jon Boy” Walton, Freddie Jo Walton, Jonathon “Toby” Rodgers, Kenneth “Kenny Jo” White, Tyler Smith and Donald “Duck” Keeling. He is reunited in death with his parents Clyde and Lorine Armstrong Carter, his sisters Juanita Carter Bruins, Barbara Carter Sullivan, Sue Carter Rickey, and his brothers James Carter, Ronnie Carter and Jeff Carter. A proud husband, daddy, poppy, farmer, and friend. Fred will be deeply missed. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. March 11, 2021 in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation has been chosen as final disposition. A private memorial will be held at a later date. To follow the directives of Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, masks covering the mouth and nose are required for all persons in Arkansas for all indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to non-household members where social distancing cannot be assured. Those attending will also be asked to sign a contact registry and maintain a social distance.
