Karen Putnam Nix

Karen Putnam Nix passed away at home December 11, 2015. Karen was the daughter of the late Aldean Putnam and William L. Putnam, Sr. She is survived by two sons, Grant and Spencer Nix; brother, Harry S. Pulliam; sister, Janet Putnam DeForge and husband, Douglass J. DeForge; brother, William L. Putnam, Jr. and wife, Laura Putnam; three nephews and niece Jason D. DeForge, Alison N. DeForge and Tyler Putnam; and ex spouse Clifford Nix. Karen was devoted to her two sons, Grant and Spencer. She was an avid reader and loved the beach. Karen was loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Karen was born in Waukegan, Illinois. She spent most of her life in Virginia Beach and graduated from Kellam High School in l974. She later received a bachelor of computer science degree. She worked as a computer programmer for UNISYS Corporation and then worked as a Software Engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation. In 2008 she went to work for the Defense Department as a Software Engineer at CDSA, Dam Neck. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Laskin Road Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments by the Reverend Michael Simone. Private burial will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

I just discovered that Karen passed, and I'm in shock. I knew Karen as a teenager and young woman. She was beautiful and sweet. We caught up via email in 2014 and I really enjoyed hearing from her. Karen had a very lovely quality about her and I'll never forget her.
