Linton Gilbert Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador Obituary

Linton Gilbert

Linton Gilbert Lark Harbour, NL October 27, 1930 – March 7, 2021 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Linton Gilbert announce his peaceful passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care at the age of 90 years. Linton was a well-respected, very gentle and kind man who lived a humble life of working in the outdoors as a lumberjack and a gardener. He was a role model for others through his strong work ethic, mentorship, and selfless acts that will live on in generations to follow. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who always put his family first; as well as an avid contributor and server of his church and community. His ‘down to earth’ personality, positive attitude toward life and his contagious smile will be forever remembered by all who knew him. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children: Sharon (Tom) Childs, Brian (Rowena) Gilbert, Larry (Trudy) Gilbert, Mike (Marilyn) Gilbert, Suzanne Baird (Andy), and Sandra (Scott) Lake. Grandchildren, Terrie Walters, Trevor (Joanna) Childs, Michelle (Jason) Taite, Josh (Jen) Gilbert, Patrick Gilbert, Isaac Gilbert, Lindsay (Courtney) Gilbert, Emily Gilbert, Shelly (Taz) Antwi, Shayna Young, and Seth Lake. Great grandchildren, Nicholas, Aleigha, Ryder, Carrie, Addisyn, Emersyn, Annabelle, Allison, Tristan, Spencer and Zayah. His sister Norma (William) Pickett, brother-in-law David (Bernice) Sheppard, and sister-in-law Shirley Sheppard. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his wife Pearl (1982), parents Raymond and Elizabeth Gilbert, brother Raymond Gilbert and his wife Sylvia. His parents-in-law Arthur and Nellie Sheppard and stepfather-in-law Thomas Sheppard. His sister-in-law Myra and her husband George Robinson. Brothers-in-law Harold Sheppard, Joseph and his wife Irene Sheppard. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Corner Brook Long Term Care staff on Raspberry Road for their kindness and compassion received during his time with them. We feel that he was treated as one of their own, as he referred to them as, “pop’s girls”. They will always hold a special place in our hearts. Special thanks to Dr. P Morris who cared for him over the past several years. Due to Covid-19 Government Restrictions a private family visitation will be held and a private funeral service will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral Chapel, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue with Rev. Effie Organ officiating. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Lark Harbour. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour. Go Fly with the Angels; Until we meet again! Life is like a mountain railway. With an engineer that's brave. We must make this run successful. From the cradle to the grave.
