Betty Jean Stone
Betty Jean Stone went to her Heavenly home on December 11, 2016. She was born in Lumberton, NC to the late Vincent Earl and Athea Townsend Stone. She was also predeceased by her husband of 49 years, George W. Stone, Jr. and daughter in laws, Victoria Lee Stone and Pamela Carter Stone. Betty was a county girl, who was raised on a farm and brought to the city when she was 7 years old during World War II. She was a graduate of Norview High School and then pursued a career in bookkeeping. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with everyone. Always fashionable and the life of the party, she could dance the socks off of anyone, except her husband. In addition to shopping and her beloved dogs, her interests were crafting, antiquing, jewelry making and traveling even on the back of a motorcycle. She was actively involved in many organizations throughout her life including the Homestead Women's Club, Red Hat Society and Daughter's of the American Revolution. She is survived by her brother, H. Kenneth Stone and wife Ann Marie Funda, children, Holly Stone Longtin and husband Mike, George David Stone, Michael Thomas Stone and Mia Stone Adams and husband Daniel, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd. Chapel on Friday, December 16, 2016. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.
