Richard Colon Obituary

Richard Colón, affectionately called “Richie” by his family and friends, was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Angelo and Frances Colón and the Grandson of Angel and Rosa Colón from Aibonito, Puerto Rico who raised Richie along with his older brothers, Christopher and Anthony. Richie was part of a close family that included his sister Denise and many Uncles and Aunts: Titi Chepo, Titi Carmen, Titi Candi, Tio Joe, Tio Jorge, Titi Angie, Tio Louie, and Titi Rose as well as his cousins: Oscar, Rachel, Kristina, Maya, Jorge, Bobby, Kenny and Omar.  Richie also had his sisters Deanna and Sonia and family out in California. He attended P.S. 213 and George Gershwin Junior High School were he played the Conga for the African American Dance Club. Richie was a talented baseball player, in both softball and later baseball at Five Diamonds park in Brooklyn. He was an outfielder and could always be counted on to get on base with a hit. Richie also played neighborhood basketball and football. In his later years, Richie moved to Connecticut. He trained and worked as a bus driver, he would drive large charter buses and then school buses. He served in the National Guard and later found employment at the Post Office where he worked for over 20 years. It was there he met his beloved wife Nydia and subsequently, her daughters, Mariam and Camile. Richie and Nydia married in 2017 and settled in their beautiful home in Windsor, CT. He was very loved and cared for through the end of his life. We love and miss him already, but we look forward to seeing Richie again!
